Photography evokes a deep passion historical treasures or artifacts and peaks a historical curiosity towards untold stories. A photo is a ‘freeze frame’ of a real life events, objects and people. A curiosity exists to discover the entire untold story. Documenting these stories inspires an obsession about reliving the past through the photograph.
I am a glamour photographer. Western culture manipulates men, women, youth and old alike into believing they are too fat or socially unacceptable while at the same time shoving fast food, extreme make-overs, crash diets and pills down their throats. I'm ashamed of being a consumer. I'm ashamed to find beauty in these things. I am disgusted that it is acceptable to hate ones self to the point of causing physical and emotional harm with encouragement from their own peers and families. I became a victim of my own hypercritical short sightedness; not tall enough, handsome enough, or skinny enough. With my camera, I feel empowered with the ability to do something about it. The most gratifying subjects I work with are everyday people. Not professional models; beautiful for who they are, what they represent, and how they think. I find their beauty and expose it through my art. With that I am able to accept my own perception of myself. It is my obligation to show the world that the rest of us are beautiful, if not more seductive. |
